Review: AI Fuckup Night

Germany's first AI Fuckup Night

On March 19th, #I_make_AI, together with FUN e.V., hosted a public dialogue evening in Delmenhorst to bring together schools, businesses, and society on the topic of „A Positive Culture of Learning from Mistakes in the AI Ecosystem.“

We were delighted that nearly 200 people filled the auditorium of the Willms Gymnasium in Delmenhorst.

Four courageous individuals took to the stage and shared their stories of personal failures within the AI ecosystem. They made mistakes, stumbled, and got back up. They suffered and learned, dared, lost, and won.

At the same time, we are all aware that artificial intelligence has long since arrived in everyday life, including in schools. But what happens when algorithms influence decisions and mistakes occur? And above all: How do young people learn to deal with uncertainty when technology appears seemingly „perfect“?

The evening was initiated by the non-profit organization FUN Hamburg e.V., which advocates nationwide for a constructive culture of learning from mistakes and psychological safety in education and the workplace, and #I_make_AI, the international AI career orientation initiative of the Willms Gymnasium in Delmenhorst.

Cooperation partners included the Delmenhorst Economic Development Corporation and the Gertrud and Hellmut Barthel Foundation.

We are delighted that the first “AI Fuckup Night – Learning from Mistakes in Working with AI” was such a success.

The “Fuckup Nights” movement originated in Mexico City in 2012 and now takes place in over 60 countries. Its aim is to openly discuss professional and entrepreneurial failures – not to provoke, but to destigmatize mistakes. The deliberately provocative name represents a culture in which learning is more important than perfection. In Hamburg, the format has been organized for several years by the non-profit organization FUN Hamburg e.V.
